A 71 year-old woman with a history of alcohol use disorder presents to the ED from her subacute rehab facility with gait difficulties and a ground-level fall earlier today. She is found to have an acute-on-chronic left subdural hematoma. On exam, she is mildly somnolent and has 4/5 right upper and lower extremity strength.
You opt to take her to the OR for burr holes for SDH evacuation. This is successful, with motor oil-colored fluid easily drained out. You leave a subdural drain in. She is admitted to the NCCU post-operatively.
